The BlackWatch Track team started in the summer of 2022, led by former collegiate track sprinter, Coach KD Howard.
This program is for youth and adult athletes of all experience levels. In addition to track and field fundamentals and max velocity training, practices include strength programs, core conditioning, and flexibility sessions to maximize performance and minimize injury risk. We believe that every athlete deserves the best possible training experience, and our coaches are ready to provide that. All of our athletes in this program have the additional support from Vulcan Performance Rehabilitation and Recovery to focus on injury prevention as well as providing opportunities for services that aid in keeping our athletes healthy during their training.
Pre-Season (Spring- 2 months)
Conditioning is 7 practices between March & April for 1 and 1/2 hours on Mondays. Pre-season is focused on building base strength and fine tunning running form & technique. These practices will be located at BlackWatch Sports Performance on HWY 280.
Meet Season (Summer- 3 months)
Practices begin in May of each year, and we compete in 4-5 outdoor meets between the end of May, June & July. Practices are typically 2 times a week (Mondays & Wednesdays at 6:30) except for meet weeks where we use Fridays to work on starts, field events, clean up hurdle form and possible shake out runs.
Youth: 6-18 | Open Masters: 19-23
Pre-Masters: 24-29 | Sub-Masters: 30-34
Masters: 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55+
There are select meets that allow for toddler races and coach/parent relays. These will be announced prior to those meets so that if others want to participate. Registration fees would apply for the meet.
Any athlete who would like to compete beyond the summer in USATF events* must register with USATF under the BlackWatch Team name.
*event eligibility dependent on summer season performance
This also depends on meet options with USATF, if AAU has better meet options that the athletes would rather participate in then we would register under that program instead.

A Georgia native, Coach Howard ran track at Redan High School and then continued his track and field career at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. He has been coaching since 2010 and had this to say about his experience with track and field:
"For me track was an amazing experience. It taught me that you can achieve anything that you put your mind to if you continue to work hard. Through training I learned my favorite coaching motto,
'What would you do if fear wasn’t a factor?'
It was so much fun. I made unforgettable memories and created bonds that lasted decades."
